The WPT must have been looking North of the Border when they added their latest edition to their list of world class poker tournaments. Canadian poker players like Daniel Negreanu, Gavin Smith, Bill Edler and Evelyn Ng will get to show off their poker faces to a packed Niagara Fallsview Casino in their home and native land. The October poker event may be a change for aspiring Canadian professional poker players to flex their poker muscles on the world-wide stage that only the World Poker Tour can offer their players.
The North American Poker Championship has been held at the Niagara Fallsview Casino for the last three years and this is the first time the WPT has included the Texas Hold’em Tournament in the circuit, making it the third WPT event not located on American soil in the upcoming season. The Niagara Fallsview Casino has gained a reputation as being a world-class gambling facility with their postcard-like view of Niagara Falls, their 3,000 slot machines, 150 gaming tables and a dedicated poker room. Professional poker players will get the star treatment during the weekend at the casino’s 368-room luxury hotel.
"By staging the North American Poker Championship in this beautiful Canadian casino, we put out the welcome mat for all poker enthusiasts in Canada and truly lay down the gauntlet to see who can reign supreme on the continent," said Steve Lipscomb, CEO and founder of WPT. "We are thrilled to welcome the Niagara Fallsview to the WPT family and look forward to an inspiring and exciting event that will attract players from both sides of the border."
The World Poker Tour will begin and end their fifth season in Las Vegas, the mid-season Canadian tournament will be held October 25-29. Hollywood Poker’s Vince Van Patten will be joined by Mike Sexton and the new World Poker Tour commentator, the gorgeous Courtney Friel to broadcast the North American Poker Championship to the world.
"All of us at the Fallsview Casino are very excited to be working with the WPT to bring a premiere International Poker event like this to Canada," said Fallsview General Manager Steve Wolstenholme. "Our casino is ready to lay out the red carpet for the WPT, the players, and the fans as they join us here in Niagara Falls. We plan to make the Fallsview Casino Resort the home of the premiere poker events in Canada and will have some other exciting announcements to make in the coming weeks about our plans with the WPT moving forward."
