This Saturday, law enforcement officers from Merced County will partake in a poker run to honor two officers from the Tracy Police Department. The money raised from the event is to go toward the families of Sgt. Mike Cox and Officer David Waite. Merced County Sheriff, Sgt. Paul Roseman said the event is being hosted by the Tracy Police Officers Association, as well as the Tracey Police Employees Benefit Association and will involve not only the poker run, but also a live band, a barbecue, drinks and raffles prizes. The riders will leave the Country Waffles parking lot at 8.a.m, with all riders and bikes being welcome. The event itself will be held at Lincoln Park in Tracy. David Waite died suddenly of an illness earlier this year. He was a member of the Merced/Mariposa Narcotics Task Force as well as the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. Mike Cox developed a rare form of cancer and died in July of 2004. He served many roles within the department. He was a narcotics detective, a hostage negotiator, head of the K-9 unit, a field training officer and also worked on patrol.
